This week, I was able to start discovering more about the field of business finance by doing online research. In specific, I researched different job titles and their roles in corporate finance. When researching, I was most drawn to the role of a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) because it includes both detailed financial analysis done independently and communicating these information to upper management and the finance department. I was able to find out what education and experience could lead me down this career path and I found that requirements vary greatly depending on the size of the company. After researching, I concluded that to achieve my goals, I would want to receive my masters degree in either finance or business administration. When writing my assessment, I correlated the skills needed to be an effective CFO and my natural talents. I discovered that it’s important to have leadership skills as well as communication skills. Because I went down a rabbit hole of sources and online textbooks about corporate finance, I feel well prepared for the next assessment and annotated bibliography because I have good sources that are interesting to me. I also completed a draft of my interview questions, which made me realize the reality of talking to professionals this year. When I was writing my questions, I had to make sure that the questions were specific to my research and my topic, so the professional knows that I am taking action to learn more about the finance field. I’m very excited to perfect these questions and make the interview ready.
