The highlight of this week was a business symposium put together for all ISM students across Frisco ISD. This symposium was held at Panther Creek and ISM students came together to learn about professionalism, make contacts, and conduct interviews with professionals. I was able to go up to professionals and ask them about their career and inquire about any advice they had for me this year. I met a professional who graduated from McCombs at UT Austin, so I learned more about his experience there and how it helped him in his professional career recently. I also communicated with the Director of School Services for Frisco ISD. Although she did not work for a supply chain, she works with other supply chains to conduct her business. This was beneficial to me because I could observe her outside perspective of working with and ordering from supply chains. My interview skills were also tested through a formal 15 minute interview with a random professional. I felt that I was able to show my personality, but also be professional and learn more about what my interviewer was looking for. I got my review back from that interview the following day and he said that it felt like it was a conversation and that I seemed at ease. Although I did not feel at ease, I am proud of my bravery in being interviewed and my social skills for not showing my fear. On Thursday, I conducted an interview with a lead analyst in supply planning. I feel that I learned so much from this experience and I am hopeful for a future mentor for the second half of the year. For my research assessment this week, I watched a lecture from a professor in supply chain management and wrote about what I learned from this lecture. I was able to research more deeply about the decision making process about transportation, warehousing, and inventory.
