11/7-11
This week, I was able to present my 8-10 minute speech to my peers about all my research so far this semester. This was a challenge because not only was my research very specific, it was also over a unique topic that not many students have explored or taken interest in. I knew that I couldn’t put my audience to sleep, so I tried to keep my explanations very broad and relate the functions of supply chain back to a consumer’s point of view to make it more relatable to their everyday lives. I was proud of the way I presented, but wished I had spent more time practicing my speech so I could speak more fluidly with better eye contact. I loved hearing from my peers and learning about their topic of interest. I was happy to see most of my peers conduct interviews and receive professional feedback, but I also sympathized with those who have not made many contacts because of the uniqueness of their topic. I was able to analyze their presentational skills and use that information to make changes to my presentations in the future. My first mentor meeting was great and settled a lot of unknowns. I was able to connect with my mentor to explain the main purpose of the final products in the ISM program and we were able to set up a general plan on discovering what topic to research. She gave me great resources to research for the week and set me up well for writing my assessment. I’m very excited to continue to research the general aspect of supply chain in hopes that I can find a specific topic or function of supply chain that appeals to me and will later be the basis of my final product.
