9/26-9/30
I’m very proud of the work I completed this week. I was given the opportunity to speak to an Associate Sourcing Manager at Stryker over the phone and discover more about supply chain. From this interview, I learned about three departments in supply chain management: demand planning, supply chain planning, and sourcing. This professional had two main tasks: managing the distribution and set up of booms and third party service suppliers.I found that those who work in sourcing serve as a middle man between customers and engineers, ensuring that customers can receive the Styker product they want with the modification and aid of engineers. I was encouraged to hear that finance was still a factor in this career, filling out monthly Purchase Price Variance reports to compare the company’s expected price of a product and what the product actually sold for. This interview narrowed my topic down to specifically supply chain planning. I am interested in the management of inventory, setting forecasts, and analyzing data. I was able to receive more contacts from professionals at Stryker that work in supply chain planning. After my interview, I adapted my interview questions due to my new knowledge and made my resume more appealing. Another exciting thing this week was learning about a business symposium that will take place the following week. This is an incredible opportunity for me to have and I am excited to meet other ISM students. I bought professional clothes to wear and printed copies of my resume in order to be prepared for this event.
